Geordie Wood is a photographer and director based in New York City. Starting from a foundation in documentary photography, his practice has evolved into something more deliberate, built on careful, considered choices that accumulate into images and films that feel effortless and uncontrived. Whether working one-on-one with a single subject or leading a large crew on a complex production, the approach remains constant – elevating the real world through careful observation rather than imposing upon it. Known for his portrait work, he has spent much of his career photographing individuals, from cultural icons to everyday people, with an emphasis on intimacy and authenticity. As photo director of The FADER, long regarded as one of the most visually distinctive music publications of its era, Wood developed an eye for how images work in relation to one another, thinking as much in sequences and bodies of work as in single pictures, a sensibility that carries through everything he makes. His debut film, Divers, recently premiered in competition at Visions du Réel and went on to screen at Toronto International Film Festival and festivals across three continents.
